Overview

Tasmania is a trekking paradise: spectacular ancient treks with beautiful panoramic paths – a dream for every hiker intersect here.

While everyone knows of the classic trekking routes, the coastal trails on the sunny side of the island are virtually undetected. We walk between the most beautiful bays on the island: Bay of Fires and Wineglass Bay. We marvel at the Cradle Mountain from all sides. On the prowl in the Freycinet National Park, we look for kangaroos and Tasmanian Devils. We also climb Mt. Amos – for a panoramic view of the coast!

Rounding out our trip with hiking – we experience the highlights of the Australian mainland: Blue Mountains, Grampians, Great Ocean Road – Australia at its best!

Day 1 - Depart for Southern Hemisphere

Day 2 - Welcome to Sydney

Arrive in Sydney and hotel transfer. We spend 3 days exploring this wonderful city and surrounds

Day 3 - Manly

We take the ferry to Manly and discover a part of the famous great coastal walks. The afternoon is free for you to explore the city and the historic waterfront “The Rocks”.

Day 4 - Shadow of the Opera House

With its sail roof, the famous Opera House like a ship before the skyscrapers seems to float – a popular spot for photographers of all travellers. Then we enter in the footsteps of Elizabeth Macquarie and enjoy the harbour views from “her” place. We discover more sights of the “secret capital of Australia”, for example the Harbour Bridge and walk finally at Bondi Beach. A brilliant kick off to our tour.

Day 5 - Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains enchant with their shimmering blue eucalyptus forests, but also with spectacular rock formations such as the “Three Sisters”. These three rocks points over a deep gorge – a great panorama! We then follow the popular cliff top track to complete the circuit. Hotel accommodation in the Blue Mountains.

Day 6 - National Pass Trail

Sandstone cliffs, waterfalls from all sides as well as lush vegetation. Welcome to the National Pass Trail in the Blue Mountains! The historic loop route takes us to the heart of this world heritage site landscape. A beautiful path walkers have hiked since 1907 with enthusiasm. Return to Sydney and hotel accommodation.

Day 7 - On to Tasmania

Today we fly 240 km south of the Australian mainland to the island of Tasmania. Depending on the flight time, we’ve got time for short explorations of the island’s capital Hobart. Hotel accommodation in Hobart.

Day 8 - Freycinet National Park

Early in the morning we drive through the amazing Fingal Valley where we get magnificent views. After a strenuous walk, we climb our first Summit Mt Amos (454 m), which offers us a spectacular view of the Freycinet Peninsula and coastal sections. 2 nights in the Freycinet-NP.

Day 9 - Tasmanian Dream Coast

We follow a part of the Freycinet NP tour. Here again spectacular views of the coast open to us. No question, the Wineglass Bay and the Great Oyster Bay are world class with their white beaches in contrast the shades crystal clear blue water to the most beautiful beaches.

Day 10 & 11 - Bay of Fires

A colourful paradise awaits us. On a coastal path, we marvel at the magnificent beaches of the Bay of Fires. We lace our boots and hike the Douglas-Apsley National Park. The trail winds past between the Dolerite cliffs, gorges and many fresh rock pools. A refreshing swim awaits us. We walk along the sandy, white beaches. Large granite rocks in the sky, covered with orange crust Lichen stand next to us. On the other side, the turquoise sea – forms a colour spectacular! We keep our eyes open for kangaroos, wombats and Wallabies which live all around us – don’t forget your camera! Another beautiful beach hike leads us to The Gardens (one of the most photographed places) through to Ansons Bay. 2 nights in a comfort tent camp.

Day 12 & 13 - Cradle Mountain

Let’s go in the direction of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair NP. At the beginning, we climb the technically simple mountain Quamby Bluff. From the top a fantastic panoramic view to reward us for the distance. The next day, we hike along Dove Lake and ends with the rocky rise to the Marions Lookout. Once again, we are excited by the variety of colours: deep blue lakes, lush green landscape and various beige to brown tones. The all-round view on the surrounding mountains, shimmering lakes and above all the views of the great majestic skies. Cradle Mountain is worth the effort and rewards us with breathtaking views. 2 nights stay at Cradle Mountain.

Day 14 - Launceston

For those keen, enjoy a morning hike in Cradle Mountain to get the last views. After we have relaxed our legs, we’re going to Launceston.

Day 15 & 16 - Multicultural Heart of Australia

We fly into the bustling metropolis of Melbourne and discover the highlights of the city by tram and on foot. Of course, we will visit the famous Flinders Street station, the lively Federation Square and the trendy beachside area of St Kilda. If time we can enjoy the views from Eureka Tower or immerse in the hustle and bustle of one of the numerous Cafés. The next day we explore more sights We discover more sights by bicycle. We cycle the Capital City Trail along the Yarra River, over to the Melbourne Cricket Ground and up to Docklands – never further than 5 km from the city centre. In the afternoon you can explore Melbourne on your own. The city is known for its street art – worth a look into Hosier Lane for all fans of graffiti art.

Day 17 - Great Ocean Road

We are on the way to the most beautiful panoramic road of the red continent. Fantastic views of the South Coast opens up on the way to the Twelve Apostles, the most famous natural monument of the Great Ocean Road. Also the Gibson Steps, an area of limestone cliffs, as well as the Loch Ard Gorge, both in the Port Campbell National Park. We discover the beauty of the different sections of the coast on foot.

Day 18 - Grampians National Park

The landscape changes to cliffs plunging hundreds of meters in the depth and the breadth of the landscape is strikingly high. Welcome to the Grampians NP. A cliff path above the Grand Canyon gives us wonderful views of the entire mountain range. We follow the path up to the postcard “The Pinnacle” and view over the cliff to the views beyond. The landscape is also home to many koalas and kangaroos – animal encounters are possible! The silence is interrupted only by the chirping of insects. A good time to review the experience of the last two weeks.

Day 19 - McKenzie Canyon

We start the day with a leisurely walk through the McKenzie ravine up to the waterfall to see it plunging over several steps: a great photo opportunity. On the way back to Melbourne, we visit a winery and the gold rush town of Ballarat.

Day 20 - Depart for Northern Hemisphere

Today we head home with Airport transfer and return flight.

Day 21 - Arrive Home
